Message from the Director
Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre - Kathmandu (SVCC-K), was established in 2008 to showcase India's rich diversity, heritage and promote multilayered spirit of Indian cultural exchanges between the peoples of India and Nepal. SVCC-K aims to strengthen cultural relations, mutual understanding and strengthening people-to-people contacts between our two nations while promoting cultural co-operation by building on cultural commonalities and creating an awareness of India’s diverse cultures in all its facets. Thus, establishment of SVCC-K is an important initiative of the Government of India, in keeping with the high priority it attaches to its deep rooted bilateral relations with Nepal.
The Centre organizes performing art shows, visual art, exhibitions, seminars, workshops, lecture demonstrations year round by inviting inspiring musicians, dancers and artistes from India and also by inviting allied personalities from Nepal. In addition, the Centre gives platform to its students and local talents by organizing regular performances at its premises and outside depending upon the events. SVCC-K also celebrates major festivals in association with partner Nepali organizations with a view of promoting art, culture and festivals of both the nation.
A month long Festival of India in Nepal organized by SVCC, Embassy of India (Kathmandu) supported by Ministry of Culture, Government of India in from February 19, 2019 featured five different performing Indian art forms in Kathmandu and other cities of Nepal. In addition to that, it included a theater, a week long photo exhibition on Gandhi-ji along with an inter-school/inter-college speech competition on Mahatma Gandhi. The festival concluded with a 03-day International Seminar on Sanskrit titled "Sanskrit: Treasure of India and Nepal". The feedback from the participants and local Nepali people were very encouraging. The festival as well as other events organised by SVCC-K has contributed in strengthening our cultural as well as people to people contacts besides generating goodwill for India amongst all cross-section of the Nepali society.
In addition to that, SVCC-K has been able to reach to diverse segment of the Nepali society as it regularly conducts classes, camps, workshops and a variety of events. All this has helped elevating our profile. For more information, kindly reach us on icc.kathmandu@mea.gov.in or 01-4001816
